Critical Role Campaign 4 Unveils the Fighters Party

Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master the talented storyteller has kept viewers on edge with deep backstory, a wide array of characters, and a gripping narrative featuring angels, fiends, and malevolent powers growing in influence within the city.

Note: Key plot points for the latest installment of the new season lie ahead.

The Warrior Group Introduced

The latest chapter ended with a dramatic pause and introduced the premier party of adventurers who will split off from the main group to begin their own adventure, distinct from the additional parties.

This warrior group consists of Teor (portrayed by the voice actor), Thimble (Laura), Tyranny (Whitney Moore), the cleric (the player), and the mysterious adventurer (the actor).

Why Split the Party?

With an extensive roster, it was evident from the start that maintaining everyone at a single group would be unworkable.

This explains, the first four episodes of the new season serve as an Overture, intertwining the characters’ stories before dividing into three smaller tables: Soldiers, Schemers, and Explorers.

What Defines the Combat Party

As described by Brennan Lee Mulligan, the warrior group is for adventurers who prefer a classically intense battle-oriented story mode where peaceful solutions are scarce.

At first glance, characters like the squeamish cleric the cleric might appear mismatched, but the actions of episode 3 demonstrate why these specific adventurers are perfectly fit for the warrior group.

Why They Must Go

For one thing, the party knows exactly where to proceed after a violent first encounter with the antagonists.

Casimir of Thjazi Fang—whose death kicked off the story’s plot—manipulated the foes for his own means, entering Thjazi’s hideout, attacking Thimble, and taking all the powerful objects to sell off.

Casimir then settled his liabilities and ran away to a secure base in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond the city, with Cyd close behind.

Individual Reasons

Secondly, each member has a specific drive to exit the urban setting:

  • Thimble, as Thjazi’s partner and best friend, desires revenge.
  • Kattigan is familiar with Timmony and warns that it is a hostile location.
  • The strong character and Wicander, having resisted his relatives’ demands to execute the fighter and instead rescued him, have no other options.
  • Yet, their position as prominent individuals in House Halovar could enable the team access places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Moreover, Teor vowed a eternal obligation to The savior for his rescue and will now accompany him everywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

Finally, all of them are sought by the powers that control Dol-Makjar for a range of causes, making staying in the city too risky:

  • The rogue and The hero are known criminals.
  • The warrior and The healer turned against House Halovar and the legion of demons they are allied with.
  • Teor is wanted dead by the clan.

This leaves them little choice but to travel to Timmony in search of Casimir.

Future Episodes

According to the recent installment’s follow-up content, we discover that the combat party will not appear in the upcoming installment, leaving the remaining eight participants to form the Explorers and Schemers groups.

Viewers can anticipate learning which adventurers will be assigned to which table in the story’s concluding setup installment, released on next week.
