Heroic Rail Employee Suffers Severe Injuries During Mass Knife Incident on High-Speed Train

A courageous train employee who intervened to protect passengers during a multiple stabbing attack on a express train has sustained critical injuries, authorities confirmed on Sunday.

Details of the Terrifying Event

Surveillance footage reportedly depicts the staff member attempting to halt the assailant as the train journeyed between Peterborough and another station in the county. Bystanders described a frightening 14-minute period after the train departed Peterborough, with injured passengers fleeing through carriages.

The individual, a 32-year-old citizen from Peterborough, remains in detention for interrogation. Authorities announced a significant incident on the 6:25 pm service from Peterborough to King's Cross in downtown London.

Crisis Response and Aftermath

The event on the weekend resulted in 11 people being cared for in hospital after the train made an unscheduled stop at the station in Huntingdon. Several individuals have now been released from medical care.

A bystander filmed the suspect waving a large knife and being shot with a Taser as he faced officers on the platform. He was reportedly heard yelling, "End my life, end my life."

“This was a horrific attack that has had a wide impact. My thoughts and those of everyone in British Transport Police are with those injured and their families – especially the courageous employee of rail staff whose family are being supported by trained officers,” stated a senior police official.

Union Reaction and Calls for Action

Rail unions were quick to praise employees and demand increased action. A labor official said he would be “seeking urgent discussions with authorities, train companies and law enforcement to guarantee that we have the strongest possible assistance, tools and robust protocols in operation”.

Another union leader encouraged the train operator and government “to act swiftly to review safety, to help the impacted employees, and to make sure nothing like this happens again”.

Operator Praised for Rapid Action

The operator who halted the service at Huntingdon was described as being “very shaken” but “well”, and has been praised by association officials for doing “exactly the right thing”.

“The driver didn’t halt the train in the middle of two stops where it’s obviously challenging for the emergency services to reach, but he continued going until he arrived to Huntingdon, where the response was almost already there,” stated a association representative.

Additional Details

Police stated they got the first distress calls at 7:39 pm, and the service was forced to make an unplanned stop in Huntingdon at 7:50 pm.

One witness described at first thinking if the situation was a holiday joke, but quickly realized from people's faces that it was serious.

Authorities have stated there is nothing to suggest the incident was a terror-related incident and have requested the community to come forward with any further details.

Train operations on the affected route are expected to have delays until Monday, with travelers advised to postpone their journeys where feasible.

Individuals with details that could help the investigation are encouraged to contact authorities by sending a message a specific number with a case code.
