Third-party negotiations focused on achieving a comprehensive deal on a Trump administration initiative to end the war in Gaza have commenced in the mediation venue of Sharm El-Sheikh.

Local and international officials have reported that the sessions are focused on "establishing the groundwork" for a potential swap that would result in the release of all detained individuals in exchange for a group of detained Palestinians.

The group stated it accepts the ceasefire initiative partially, but has failed to address several crucial requirements - such as its disarmament and political participation in Gaza.

The negotiations, which will involve regional and international officials holding shuttle meetings with delegations from both Israel and Hamas individually, take place on the approach of the two-year mark of the military operation on Israeli territories on 7 October 2023, in which nearly 1,200 people were fatally wounded and 251 others were taken hostage.

The defense forces began military actions in Gaza in retaliation. From that point, 67,160 have been fatally injured by armed interventions in Gaza, as reported by the territory's medical administration.

Peace Plan Details
