Around twenty-five thousand homes in Queensland's southeast were left lacking electricity on Monday morning after severe thunderstorms impacted the area, producing powerful gusts hitting over 100 km/h.
Massive Ice Stones and Broad Damage
Homeowners observed large ice chunks reaching sizes of 7 centimeters in some areas. Weather authorities confirmed that multiple regions across the state had been impacted by large hailstones.

Utility workers were attempting to repair electricity service throughout the impacted areas, with nearly 70 crews deployed to address the numerous electricity disruptions.

Meanwhile, nearly 1,000 residents in Victoria also encountered power outages after the capital city saw its heaviest rainfall in over 500 days.
Emergency response teams handled 598 calls for help across the state, primarily for structural issues but also for collapsed vegetation and inundation.

At the height on the previous day, over 28,000 energy customers in Victoria were without power.

Damp conditions were expected to linger along large portions of eastern Queensland this next several days as a low-pressure trough continued to draw in moisture against the coast.
The following day was predicted as the wettest day, with persistent storm activity expected across different parts of both states.

Public health experts cautioned that there was an higher risk of weather-related respiratory issues across the state's northern country region, particularly given the ongoing climate situation.
