Patriots Equal Best Victory Run Since Brady Years with Win Against Jets
First-year player Henderson has recorded five touchdowns during the current campaign
The New England Patriots matched their best victory streak from the Tom Brady period as they overcame division opponents the Jets 27-14 in the NFL
First-year standout TreVeyon Henderson led the way with three TDs as the New England squad secured an eighth straight win for the initial occasion since star signal-caller Brady's last year with the franchise in the 2019 season
Signal-caller Maye accumulated 281 yards and a score, connecting on 25 of 34 passes
The win increases the New England's lead at the top of the division as they advanced to a 9-2 record, with the Jets at the foot after slipping to two wins and eight losses
The visitors had scored first at their home field with QB Fields rushing for a short rushing score to cap the New York's first possession
But the Patriots responded in the second period as the rookie rushed for two short rushing scores before the ball carrier caught a pass from Drake Maye at the back of the endzone midway through the third period to make it 21 to 7
"It was a big time for him stepping up, and it's been excellent for him to keep getting these reps," the quarterback said of Henderson. "He wants to be excellent."
Justin Fields connected with Metchie toward the end of the third period to reduce the lead for the visitors but Andy Borregales converted a two kicks in the final period as the Patriots closed out the victory
