The buzz about The Game Awards was significant, notably after presenter Geoff Keighley shared an enigmatic photo of a desert monolith. The secret has now been solved. The acclaimed developer is creating a fresh Divinity game.
Titled simply Divinity, the game was showcased with a audacious trailer packed with intense imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the literal opening of infernal gates.
A Different Direction
For those anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. The studio stated ahead of time that a direct sequel to its venerated RPGs is not on the cards right now.
However, the developer described this new Divinity as a continuation of the core franchise. This phrasing hints that the team might be designing a real-time experience as opposed to another tactical title. For now, this is speculation, as only a announcement clip is available.
What Makes Divinity Special
The Divinity series is universally respected and many say it kicked off the contemporary revival of complex computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for intricate stories, branching plots, and complex character building—elements that recently were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its universe is classic fantasy, what truly sets Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust given to the player.
In contrast to modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is brimming with niche playthroughs that are viable with a distinct build with a personal story.
The series is also famously open-ended, enabling players to experiment both in story and combat. Most missions can be solved in a variety of manners, often in surprising fashion.
- You might solve a puzzle because you heeded something a dog told you.
- Or, you could bypass a challenge by teleporting a glob of lava in a inventive way.
The Journey Continues
It is these creative systems that lead fans and critics to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games of all time. Now, fans can anticipate a new entry in this groundbreaking franchise.
